Hypnotherapy is a form of therapy which uses hypnosis as a tool for inducing a state of relaxation and heightened suggestibility. Hypnosis aims to guide an individual to alter their thoughts, feelings and behaviours by accessing the subconscious mind.

This process works by helping the mind become open to new suggestions and positive ways of thinking. The process of hypnotherapy is achieved by inducing a state of relaxation, which allows you to access your subconscious mind. Once in a state of hypnosis, you are more suggestible, allowing me to make positive suggestions that may help to change desired perceptions and behaviours.

The use of hypnotherapy goes back to ancient times, with evidence of its use found in both the ancient Chinese and Egyptian texts. In more recent times dating back to the 18th century, it was discovered by Franz Mesmer, followed on by Milton H Erickson, who was considered the father of modern clinical hypnosis. Hypnotherapy has become increasingly popular over recent years and has been used to treat a wide range of health conditions, both physical and psychological.

However the susceptibility of individuals plays an important part with regards to responding to hypnosis. Some of us are more naturally susceptible to hypnosis than others and find it easier to focus and become relaxed, making it easier for the hypnotist to put us into a trance-like state. How Does A Hypnotherapy Session Work?

My sessions take place in a quiet and safe environment. During hypnosis, I will guide you into a trance-like state, and your attention is solely directed towards my voice. I will instruct you to relax and allow your mind to experience heightened sensations of relaxation. This altered state encourages the conscious mind to take a backseat, and allow your subconscious mind to take over.

The subconscious mind holds all our beliefs, habits, and emotions that are deeply ingrained in our brain. Since the subconscious mind is so dominant, it is challenging to change the patterns and behaviours it holds by merely changing the conscious mind. Hypnotherapy helps to access the subconscious mind by inducing a trance-like state, helping you to be more receptive to suggestion, thereby allowing potential positive changes to your beliefs, thoughts and feelings.

Once in a relaxed state, I will provide you with instructions designed to help you overcome a specific issue. Hypnotherapy techniques support me in suggesting desired changes to your behaviour, such as becoming more confident, helping with insomnia, quitting smoking and weight loss. These positive suggestions help to train the mind to react to specific triggers with new thought patterns and behaviours.
