Welcome to Li'l's Healing Room, where I offer meditation services designed to help you achieve inner peace and balance.

What Is Meditation?

Ten years ago, I spent many weekends at my favourite Amaravati Buddhist Monestry, Great Gaddesden and attended planned meditation retreats at various locations. This was the start of a powerful journey that has, and still does, support me in gaining insight & healing for both personal and professional purposes.

Due to our fast-paced, pressured and stressful lives, meditation has continued to increase in popularity in recent years. It is a practice that has been around for centuries and used in a wide range of cultures. Meditation is one of the most ancient and widely practised techniques for attaining a state of relaxation, inner peace and spiritual evolution.

Meditation is a teaching in awareness & healthy sense of perspective. Its primary aim is to cultivate a state of calmness, awareness, and focus, and it can be described as a method of training the mind to be peaceful and concentrated. Depending on our intention, meditation can be used to connect with our environment and ourselves or as a pathway to our spiritual growth.

Many of us search for ways to reduce stress, improve mental focus, and increase overall well-being. Creating a regular meditation practice can bring many benefits: mental, emotional, physical & spiritual.

Can Anyone Learn To Meditate?

The answer to whether anybody can learn to meditate is a resounding YES! Meditation is a natural state of being available to all of us, with or without religious or spiritual requirements. It can be practised in various forms, such as sitting, walking, or lying down; some techniques can involve focusing on the breath, a word, an object, a sound, or an image. By creating space between ourselves and our thoughts, meditation can help reduce stress and anxiety.

At Li'l's Healing Room, I provide personalized guidance and support to help you learn, practice or even master different meditation techniques. With a willingness to practice and make meditation a part of your daily routine, anybody can experience the mentally clear and emotionally calm state that meditation brings. So, start your journey towards inner peace and balance by booking your session today!

Benefits Of Meditation

People who practice meditation often describe feeling more relaxed, happier, and more at ease. It's a great way to start or end the day, as it can help to set the tone for the day ahead or unwind at the end of a busy day.

Meditation is widely acknowledged for relieving stress, an ongoing issue in our busy modern lives. Long-term stress can contribute to various health problems, including anxiety and depression. Studies show that regular meditation helps lower cortisol levels, reducing stress's emotional and physical impact.

In addition to stress relief, meditation also sharpens focus and mental clarity. It is especially beneficial for improving sleep patterns. Insomnia, which is common among many people, can cause fatigue, weakened immunity, and emotional instability. Meditating before bed quiets the mind, easing the constant chatter of thoughts, and promotes a more peaceful, uninterrupted sleep.

Meditation has numerous physical health benefits, and research has shown that regular meditation can help decrease blood pressure and lower heart rates, reducing the risk of heart disease. It can also help to boost the immune system and increase overall energy levels.

Meditation has also been shown to help reduce chronic pain, such as back pain or arthritis, by reducing inflammation in the body. Mentally, it has been proven to improve cognitive abilities, including memory, focus, and concentration. It can also help to reduce symptoms of depression, anxiety, and stress and improve overall emotional well-being.

Changes To The Brain

Meditation is a practice that has been shown to have numerous benefits for both the mind and body. One of the most fascinating aspects of meditation is how it can bring about profound changes in the brain, both before and after the practice. Research has shown that even short periods of regular meditation can positively impact brain function and structure.

Before Meditation

The brain is constantly subjected to various stresses and strains from external and internal factors before meditation. Stress from work, anxiety, depression, restlessness, and other negative emotions can create imbalances in the brain, leading to poor decision-making, exhaustion, and restlessness.

These negative emotions can also alter the brain's chemistry, leading to low energy levels, irritability, and a weakened immune system. Additionally, the brainwave patterns before meditation are typically busy and fast, resembling the beta state (13-30 Hz), associated with stress, alertness, and anxiety. This beta state can lead to decreased productivity and focus levels.

After Meditation

Through the practice of meditation, the brain undergoes a multitude of changes that promote increased internal calm, focus, and relaxation. During meditation, the brain enters a state of deep relaxation known as the alpha state (8-13 Hz), an ideal state of mind for relaxation and creativity.

In addition, meditation stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system (PSNS), resulting in the body's natural relaxation responses, such as enhanced digestion, improved immune function, and reduced inflammation. This activation also reduces the sympathetic nervous system (SNS) activation, which is responsible for the body's stress responses.

Another significant change in the brain after meditation is heightened brainwave coherence. This coherence results from the synchronization, alignment, and connectivity of neural circuits, making brain activity more organized, efficient, and focused. This can lead to better decision-making, planning, and analytical thinking, among other benefits. At Li'l's Healing Room, my meditation services are designed to help you experience these profound brain changes and achieve inner peace and balance.
